(EN) T.I. and Wife Arrested

Rapper T.I., who is currently on probation after spending some time in jail on gun charges, was arrested along with his wife on drug charges after police smelled alleged marijuana coming from their car, as authorities have reported. The Wednesday night arrests for possession of a controlled substance happened in West Hollywood during a traffic stop, Los Angeles sheriff’s deputy Mark Pope told The Associated Press. “Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle,” the department said. “A narcotics investigation ensued” that resulted in the arrests. While details are sketchy as of press time, the arrest could impact T.I. tremendously. He faces the risk of this arrest leading to a violation of probation. He was recently released from Federal prison after doing time for possessing an illegal firearm and possessing a gun as a convicted felon. He is currently serving a three-year probation after he pleaded guilty for those charges in May of 2009. T.I. and Tiny were booked at the West Hollywood sheriff’s station. Bail was set at $10,000 each.

(EN) The Dog Freed Early

Rapper DMX (whose real name is Earl Simmons) is a free man after serving 18 days of a 90-day sentence for 2002 reckless driving charges.

As reported here previously at DJ-League, on July 26, X turned himself in for a 2002 arrest where he was alledgedly driving while intoxicated. After reaching a plea bargain, the rapper was sentenced for a lesser reckless driving charge. He was sentenced to 90 days for reckless driving, but served only 18, which is less than three weeks into the sentencing.

 

(EN) R&B Singer Fantasia Goes To Hospital

Singer Fantasia Barrino was taken to a Charlotte, North Carolina hospital on Monday night. As revealed by news network CNN, she had overdosed on “aspirin and a sleep aid”. The incident happened the same day she read a court complaint from a Paula Cook, who alleged that Fantasia had a yearlong affair with her husband, Antwaun Cook according to her manager Brian Dickens. “Her injuries are not life threatening,” Dickens said. “She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time.” She was expected to be released from the hospital Tuesday, he said. Fantasia publicly acknowledged the affair in a statement Tuesday issued by Dickens that said “Fantasia fell in love with Mr. Cook and believed that he loved her.” Photos of Barrino and Cook were published online in recent months, prompting questions about their relationship. Her second album, which has received favorable reviews, will be released on August 24, while the second season of her reality show debuts next month.

(EN) Bun B Scores First 5 Mics Since 2005

The surviving member of UGK has done something that hasn’t been done in 5 years. Score a “five mic” rating from the Source Magazine. The “Mind Squad” gave Bun B’s new album “Trill OG” its highest rating. It’s the first album to do so since Lil Kim’s The Naked Truth in 2005.

Each album went through meticulous review from ‘Mind Squad’ in different categories that included originality, lyrical content, arrangement and production. Trill O.G. scored high enough to receive 5 mics, the holy grail of Hip-Hop ratings, granting it admission into an elite club of timeless musical compositions that span over 20 years. The album rating system has been a staple for the magazine in announcing which artists have put together the best album from start to finish.

As a personal note, I have to agree that this is one of the best albums start to finish that I have heard in a very long time. Some of the producers on the album include J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Drumma Boy, Boi-1da and DJ Premier. Special guests on the album include 2pac, Trey Songz, Jeezy, Yo Gotti, Drake, and his late partner Pimp C.

(EN) It’s Official. Wyclef Is Running For President

It’s official. Wyclef is running for president. Hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean told CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Thursday that he is running for president of Haiti.

A Haitian native, he was one of the first celebrities to offer aid after a devastating earthquake hit Haiti back in January. He has also been an outspoken member of the nation with help through his Yele Haiti Foundation, which has been under criticism for how it spends its money. He recently resigned as chairman of the Yele Haiti Foundation.

“Yes, it’s my first time announcing it live — that today I went in, and I signed, and I am running to be the president of Haiti,” said Jean, in his first television interview about his decision to run.

“I’m being drafted by the youth of Haiti,” Jean said. “Now that our country has toppled, it’s a chance to rebuild from the bottom on up.”

He shot to fame in the mid-1990s as a member of the Fugees, but now performs as a solo artist.

Elections for the presidency of Haiti are November 29th.

(EN) Young Bucks House Gets Raided

The United States federal government raided Nashville, Tennesee rapper Young Buck’s residence Tuesday morning (Aug. 3) over a $300,000 past tax bill.

The agents forced their way into his home with shotguns and seized recording recording equipment, jewelry, furniture, and his platinum plaques, a statement said.

That rapper has had serious problems with back taxes since leaving G-Unit. Buck said he was saddened by the raid and it has taken away much of his ability to generate revenue.

“The worst part of this isn’t the material stuff–that will all be replaced. It’s what it does to the people around me. They took my kids’ Playstation, my assistants’ computers, and baby’s mothers’ jewelry. They took my home studio so I can’t even record,” he said.

(EN) Superstar Couples Get Married Over The Weekend


Over the weekend, T.I. and his longtime companion Tameka “Tiny” Cottle from Xscape and superstar singer Alicia Keys and mega producer Swizz Beatz tie the knot in seperate ceremonies.

First off, T.I. (whose real name is Clifford Harris) and Tiny’s wedding ceremony was is the theme of Cinderella. After they exchanged vows at a courthouse on Friday, they held their ceremony on Miami’s Star Island Saturday. Tiny wore a Valentino gown and TI wore a white tuxedo by Prada. They arrived at the ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage that looked like Cinderella’s pumpkin. Kandi Burruss, Tiny’s group mate from Xscape, Young Dro, Yung LA, Rozonda “Chillli” Thomas from TLC, Usher, and Bow Wow were some of the celebrities on hand for the ceremony. El DeBarge sang for the happy couple.

Alicia Keys tied the knot with Swizz Beatz in their ceremony on Saturday at a private home by the Mediterranean Sea. She wore an ivory silk, georgette-draped gown by Vera Wang and the producer wore a tuxedo by Tom Ford, according to numerous reports. Swizz gave out out hints on the wedding through his Twitter account.

“Wowwwwwwwwww,” Beatz wrote on Saturday.

Then later he posted, “It’s a brand new day :) I feel like Nas and Diddy song :) love y’all and blessing!”

Keys, 29, and Beatz (whose real name is Kasseem Dean), 31, have been together since 2008, and are expecting their first child .

Beatz also has two other children, Kasseem Jr., 3, and Prince Nasir, 9, from previous relationships.

In addition, Superstar DJ Jazzy Jeff also got married over the weekend. There haven’t been any details on the wedding, but he released this statement via Twitter.

“Having a quiet moment reflecting on my life so far…I’m blessed beyond words and thankful for God bringing me a incredible life partner,” he said earlier in the day on Twitter.

Ice Cube’s new album “I Rep That West” was supposed to receive a summer release, but due to constraints the album will be released September 24. As promised though on his blog on icecube.com, today he has released his new single.

“It’s official, ‘Drink the Kool-Aid’ will drop on (today)Tuesday July 27th. You can get it right here on icecube.com or itunes. The ringtone will be availible everywhere. Our viral video will drop the following Tuesday August 3rd. I wish I could release a single in store for all my true CD fans, but nobody will stock a single nowadays. Sign of the times. (EN) DMX Goes To Jail

Rapper Earl “DMX” Simmons is back to jail to serve time on a crime he committed around 2002.

He turned himself in to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Courthouse on yesterday afternoon (July 26) to begin serving a 90-day sentence stemming from a 2002 reckless driving charge, according to his attorney. He was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) back in ‘02, but reached a plea deal for a lesser charge of reckless driving, the rapper’s lawyer, Aja Southern, told MTV News on Monday.

In addtion, to according All Hip Hop.com, DMX’s wife Tashera Simmons has officially separated from him and is planning a reality show focusing on her rebuilding their family without him. According to Simmons, the reality show is titled “Tashera Simmons….Life After X” and will show how their family is coping with the rapper’s legal and drug problems and how they “cope with a husband and a father that has let them down over and over again.”
